The Academy Act 2010

The Coalition Government has moved rapidly to introduce The Academy Act 2010, offering the opportunity for schools to benefit from the freedoms and flexibilities that Academy status can bring.

The benefits of Academy status include: freedom from LEA control and routine school inspections, greater control over how budgets are used, the freedom to set teachers’ pay and contracts, as well as greater flexibility in the curriculum, term times and length of the school day.
